Vanille WIP 12 [Collection]

Hello everyone!

As i mentioned, I upload all of Vanilles' progress on Deviantart but a few people asked for a second upload here on my blog. So you get a collection of all the WIPs I posted on Deviantart with a short description:

The legs are finished, on top of the left leg you can see the connection area.

The hips are a long project. They need a lot of inner support. You can see the connectors on the legs, and the cardboard inside. The white area wont be visible later. It is the area where the skirt will be attached.

Vanilles' chest was not hard to build. But as the hips, it needs a lot of support :/

I added this picture to show my current progress. She does not stand alone at this point, but the parts fit together perfectly!

I chose to build the hands for the next step. The fingers need a bit editing. I also added colour to the nails. 2 fingers are already finished. This is the last progress i uploaded. Stay tuned and please dont be shy to post comments! =)

Hey everyone,

I finally have some new pics for you!

This is the end phase of the right leg with its' biggest gluetab. 16cm that is.

I am also working on the pants and the connection between them and the legs.

What you see are the Connector-Parts of Vanilles' legs and pants.

1 shows the left leg from above with the hole for the connector.

2 is the area and the connector which will later be assembled to the pants.

3 & 4 show how the two parts come together. Very smooth

i did not post any progress over the holidays so here are a few pictures for you :)

This is the actual progress. As you can see the right boot is close to be finished. i have to build a few pieces of the fur-part and then combine them all.

I took a photo of the inside of the right heel. You can see the supporting cardboards and the multilayered paper.

hi everyone,

i just want to wish all of you a merry merry christmas and you know... all this stuff everyone wishes to his/her viewers at the moment ^^

So what's going on at the moment?

-I started the right boot of Vanille. And i tried out another method to build it, because i thought that it would be better and easier that way. ... I was wrong -.- ...
I think i will finish it in the next 2 or 3 days depending on how much time i can afford.

-ok what else? hm i got my 800ml bottle of glue for christmas :D:D ... and paper too.

-oh and the maintenance faciltiy thingy for the patlabor robotsuit is finished. i will upload a photo later..

Hi everyone

i continued the work on the left leg today, and i recognized that it bent in another direction than it should because of the glue and the 3 layers. So i decided to attach a horizontal plane at the height of ~20 cm which forced the layers back in position:

I have to add more paper stripes to hold it in place but it works =)

Leg arrangements

hey everyone,

before i build the second boot, i want see something new. so i decided the left leg would be the best thing to build next.

i am not sure how much support it needs to hold all the weight of the body. at the moment i use a method containing 2 additional layers at the inside of the leg. here is an illustration:

1: outer leg layer
2: horizontal small stripes (i add them vertical too sometimes)
3: horizontal big stripes

i think the inner side of the leg will be compressed more than the outer side. so i will maybe add a 4th layer at the inside there.

so far so good, let's see if it works...

Hi everyone,

so after a lot planning and designing on pc i started to build the first piece of vanille; her left boot:

Here i am gluing the top to the rest of the boot. Fits perfect !

I want it to be as detailed as possible

This is how the boot looks from the inside. All red areas are 4 millimeter thick cardboard to reinforce the boot.

Hi everyone,

I changed the headlines of the last posts to "Vanille WIP X" (x=number). It is easier to list them up then...

so after a lot of work (i was ready to throw my pc out of the window...) i finally got what i wanted... a pose for vanille^^

i think it will work fine , even though i have to "align" a few more things:

So what is still to do? :

The left hand has to be rotated so that it does not intersect with the skirt.

The elbow has two grooves, which can't be corrected in 3ds because of the bone structure. So i will maybe just add new faces in sketchup and apply texture on them manually...

Fang we don't find luck together

Hey everyone

as i announced i was working on a lifesize model of Fang. But i sadly have to say that I got into a lot of trouble, when i started to work on the 3d model file. So in my opinion it would be very very hard to build Fang because of her long robe which would be a mess to build and very heavy later too.

But don't be sad. Fang is frozen right now, but i don't want to give up to build a lifesize model.

So, let's try out the next girl of the FF13 family.

Here comes Vanille:

As you can see I already modified her model a bit. I had to add a waist, to generate more support at her hips. (There was a hole before, which was hidden behind the skirt.)

This is how i splitted the boots. (The insides of the boots are not changed)

And this is her skirt >.< ... it was heavy to split it in "usable" parts. But i think its possible to build it now. (Let's see what the first testbuild will reveal)

So try to forget about Fang and be ready for Vanille!!!

Hi everyone,

i was playing around with 3ds Max and i just want to present you the outcome.
There are a lot of things to fix: There are no bones at the 3ds max model so i created my own. which leads to a lot of other problems... -.-

i dont know if i will really start this project. but as the title says; "maybe".

Now a few questions i asked myself (maybe you have answers):

- I need the perfect solution for inner support. shall I use inner supporting areas again as i did with yuna?
- how shall I fix the holes the bone-manipulation created?
- is there maybe some kind of "bone-data" which I can add to the model ?
- is the pose ok ?

...maybe you give me a bit support or something.

Hey people,

long times passed till I posted something here. Im sorry for keeping you waiting but at the moment my life doesn't want me to do papercraft regularly -.- '

I hope i can fix that but there are a lot of more important things than papercrafting right now i have to care about!

Nevertheless i am still working on my models. The FFXIII Save Tool is already finished and well you all saw lil Marisa.

I am also working on a model i found at paper-replika.com. It is one of the robot models from Patlabor. To be precise the "AV-98 Ingram 2"...

Final Fantasy 13 - Save Terminal

Ok. To describe what i am doing i give a short introduction:

Since there are no model extractor tools for Final Fantasy 13 I decided to do a model similar to the "original" by myself. I chose the FFXIII Save Terminal (picture beneath). I took a few photos of my screen with my camera to get the perspectives i needed for the model. Then i started to model it in Google SketchUp.

So you can see my progress in this thread. Stay tuned for updates!

The main unit is done now i think. there are maybe some changes to do. I already added some details. In the game the modelers worked with a lot of textures to give it a 3 dimensional look. I will try to model these textures in real 3d models as you can see at the green little tubes and the left display.

Al Bhed Sphere

Time for a new model. It's an Al Bhed Sphere model from Final Fantasy X. This little thingys help the player to understand the Al Bheds' conversations appearing at several parts of the storyline. So learn a little bit more about the Al Bhed building this sphere :)

After a few hours assembling the last parts Emilia is done now! It was my first papercraft without direct folds, what gives her a really smooth realistic look. I will try to keep on with this method on my next projects.

All in all Emilia was easy to assemble. Even if there was no instuction the pdo helped me out to figure out what to assemble next. Of course you need a bit experience in papercrafting...

The hardest parts where the hands. As i said before i dont really like extreme small parts, but well, the outcome is ok for me =)

Worked on Emilias jacket this day and i really like the outcome. The next step will be the hands which i really will hate i guess. The fingers are the tiniest thingys i've ever seen.

Lifesize Ultima Sword anyone?

Well i was bored and found a few weapon files on my external harddrive. I don't even know if it is the "right" size to be lifesize. I just did it by eye calculation. Such a big model, 153cm to be precise (equals 60 inch), doesn't really fit anywhere in my small room. I am thinking about hanging it on the wall ^^ Please post your comments how you like the model and if i should build it. For those who want to be faster than me; downloadlink below:

1. I haven't tried out if all the flaps are positioned right. If you really think about building the model, check out what you do before you cut the pieces out!

2. There are no inner supports, so if you build it, it will maybe bend at some areas. My tip is to measure the thickness of the hilt cause that is the thickness of the whole sword! Then you can add a long "whatever" at the inside of the whole thing to make it stable.

3. I just printed out one part of the blade and well, it looks very blurry. That happens if you resize a little game sword to a lifesize monster. Hmm vector graphics ftw?

If you find a wrong flap please comment it!

[Emilia] Building the jacket

The "lower" parts of Emilia are finished. Now the upper parts will be assembled. I already started with the jacket. When it is done i will assemble the arms and the head. Oh...and no folds :D

All my papercrafts before this post have been done with "no name" blades. I had a lot of problems with those. They got blunt after a short time for example.

Today my new blades arrived. They are extremely sharp as i already can say after testing them with my Emilia project.

God of War "Schwolch"

Hi everybody!

As always i am working on side projects, this time it is the god of war weapon posted on Papercraft.net a couple of days ago. Check out the pictures:

You may be confused about the name "Schwolch". A friend of mine and I talked about the weapon and we weren't able to define wether it is a sword (in german "Schwert") or a dagger (in german "Dolch"). So we decided to put both together -> "Schwolch" ^_^

So after about 3 days or so i finished the left underlegs' part. It really confused me it was hard to build cause it has these panels in front of the knee...

I post a Gif-Animation again. It is fun to see things moving and better to understand how a part really looks when you can see it in 3D.

Ok, the next parts really bothered me.

The next pictures are all about double layers, combining parts, creating pillars...

...and well, the final result =)

I had to create my own stand for the figure (in Google Sketchup). As i mentioned before i don't believe that the legs can take all the weight on their own. So i decided to put the weight on these two pillars. The legs won't touch the ground in the end -there will be about 1 cm between ground and feet- so they don't have to take any weight.

Oh, by the way, the model is still removable from the stand...it is not glued to it.

Here you can see the double layered part on the bottom of the body. Inside of it i inserted the second pillar.

- Yunas Instructions are a big project too. From feet to shoulders everything is done. Next will be arms, head and details..

- Bumblbee will be a project i want to finish too.. I posted a detailed article about him if you want to know more..

All in all the model works fine till now. i hope rikku will be as "easy" as the robot. i decided to build an extra pillar under the body of the robot. i dont think that the legs can take the whole structure...

So I will think about what i will build next. Maybe it will be Transformers' Bumblebee. I started that model before i worked on Yuna and never finished it. Maybe this is the time to start were i break off.

If you expected a own non FF model i have to keep you wating. Maybe i will build one but that will take time ._. so at the moment i refer to existing models.

And for those who voted for the Final Fantasy Models: Don't cry! Not winning the poll doesn't mean i wont build them!

I asked myself which one i prefer but i can't decide. If anybody would ask right now i would say Rikku. (maybe that is why i build a smaller model of her on a robot right now^^)

Tidus would be great too. Cause as one of my followers said in the box: There can't be a Yuna without a Tidus, what i think is right.

Payne would be great too i guess. Even if she only got 10%. Kaizo would go crazy if i present him a 1 Meter Payne ^^ and if i would build Payne i would build Rikku too to get the trio completed!

Ans here comes Rikku... on her dangerous looking Robot. This special "Robot Form" is also part of the Final Fantasy X-2 series. It is a special dress for Rikku.

This time it won't be a "big" project. Only 20 cm high. I don't really have many photos right now but stay tuned. I will post my progress with the model regularly!

The Hatters' Hat

I watched Alice in Wonderland (by Tim Burton) a few days ago and i was stunned. A world full of colours, strange people and unbelievable awesome things forced me to do this special papercraft item:

-This will be my first 100% selfmade Papercraft. There is no usable 3d model or anything out there so i created it myself in GoogleSketchup.

-Of course there is no texture as well. So i am currently creating one in Photoshop, what takes a couple of hours... stay tuned for further updates!

So this will be the "Non FF Model" for the poll i guess. I did a break with this model when i started working on Yuna. This is how far I am :

After spending a few extra hours this night Yuna is finally completed. I am very proud to present you a special video with a few pictures and the final result. All in all it was a very nice project. The hardest thing definetely was the head. The rest of the body was "easy".

It was my first own project. So I got a lot of experience about papercrafting with it, what is the most important fact of all, i think.

Thanks again to Kaizo for his tutorial video about the steps to a pepakura file. He was the one who made it possible for me to start this project.

I don't know yet if/when there will be an instruction. I am working on it at the moment.
I did a lot of confusing things, like working with 2 pepakura files and those stuff. So please give me time. I even don't know if everybody will be able to download it. It is kind of a special thing for me. We will see...

I decided to make Yuna downloadable. Cause when I thought about what papercrafting is about i came to the point that one of the main things of papercrafting is, to share your work with others. So please give me time. As written above I did a lot of confusing steps and i have to find a way to present it to you. (for those you ask when the release will be: It will take a few weeks i guess)

We now skip the "main body" and move on to the details. The first and biggest one is the
hair tail of Yuna. Not very hard to assemble, but it looks really great at the end. It gives
her that special thing i missed, when i looked at her before.

Hi everybody.

Over Christmas i did not have the time to continue Yunas' head. But today i assembled the first hair layer and i want to show you the result:

After another 12 parts (Right Eye) the face is finished ! The second eye was harder to assemble then the first one. I don't really know why, but when i started, 2 parts didn't fit together ._. i needed two trys though. Well in the end everything fits then :

This time 12 parts were neccessary to build the left eye. It was hard to assemble but the result was ok for me so i assembled it to the rest of the face, too. I printed the eye ball 2 times. the first time it was too dark. you couldn't even see her eye color. now its bright enough i guess.

I just finished the left arm. All in all it was easy to assemble. I had a few problems with her wristband but in the end it fit.

There will be a longer time with no pictures now. Cause i will have to work on the face in pepakura.

I want to try to give a bit more detail to my posts.

So this is the left hand of Yuna. As you can see the thumb is far away from the other fingers cause the hand will hold the right arm when it is assembled to the body. The hand as shown on the picture consists of 36 Parts.

I will build the left arm tomorrow i guess. depends on the time i have in the evening.

-Feet are not perfectly standing plane on the ground.

-hips need much support. i'm thinking about using paper mache for them.

Hi,

i started to assemble the left leg. this time with textures and 160 gsm paper! it works pretty good. I also added inner "support faces" to get a maximum of stability to the legs. (they will have to bear a lot of weight at the end) :

Ok. This was my first attempt to assemble yunas left leg. here's what i got :

I had frustrating problems with yunas model when i worked with it in pepakura. So i decided to start again with the 3ds Max file. I fixed both shoulders, both legs and one elbow. now they are easier to assemble when the model is finished.

This is my actual progress status of the 2d pepakura file:
(as u can see at the first 12 pages the legs are ready for assembly)

Finally after dumping, working with 3ds max and sketchup the model is ready for Pepakura Designer:

The biggest problem ; the face.
Because of the high detail of the cinematic model it will be the hardest part to assemble i think:

When i am working on the face in pepakura i often think of the assembling process. I got scared when i saw the 1 or 2 mm thin pieces. So i thought :" why not trying out small parts?" and here is the first test piece of lower lips :
(I chose lips because they are one of the tiniest parts of the model)

(I think it works for me. It is tiny - yes- but it is possible to build...)

Ok, this is the main reason i created this blog!

After building a few papercraft models (like bumblebee, Piano, Violin, Howls moving castle) I decided to create my own model. I watched the tutorial from kaizo and just started. I will post my progress here and i hope you stay turned for every update!

A few informations about the model:

-It is the FFX-2 Cinematic Model of Yuna. (means: i used cinematic yuna ffb as model file)
-I created the pose on my own with sketchup. I hope you like it!
-It will be 1 Meter high when it is assembled. (i chose that height because of the high detail)
